Wildfires

Protecting the cloud forest before disaster strikes.

Wildfires are a growing threat in the Andes, fueled by longer dry seasons and human pressures. At Chichipunta, we take action before the flames ignite.

Project Goals:

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of the threat of wildfires in order to establish what threats and opportunities we are face now and in the future

  • Establish firebreaks to defend critical forest areas

  • Training and equipping a rapid-response fire brigade to respond swiftly, safely, and effectively

  • Restoring native vegetation to build long-term resilience

The Chichipunta cloud forest is one of the most biodiverse places on Earth, as well as one of the most vulnerable. We believe conservation must be proactive, collaborative, and rooted in community. Our projects address urgent threats like wildfires and infrastructure, while creating space and tools for research, education, and hands-on learning.

Each initiative is an invitation: to act, to learn, and to become part of safeguarding this extraordinary forest for generations to come
